Meet the Carter Family For the Carter family, life changed in a matter of minutes. One Saturday afternoon, 8-year-old Jordan was playing outside while his mother, Danielle, was preparing dinner. Jordan had been riding his bike between his house and a friend's home just a few doors down—something he had done plenty of times before. Then Danielle looked outside. Jordan wasn't there. She walked to the friend's house. He wasn't there either. What started as a simple question—"Where's Jordan?"—quickly became every parent's nightmare. Neighbors began checking yards. Family members started calling one another. Danielle walked the neighborhood shouting her son's name while trying not to panic. For nearly 30 minutes, nobody knew where Jordan was. Eventually, a neighbor several streets away spotted him. Jordan had followed another group of children while riding his bike and became confused trying to find his way home. He was safe. But those 30 minutes changed the way Danielle thought about safety. "I realized how quickly something normal can turn into an emergency. You think you'll always know where your child is—until suddenly you don't." Today, the Carter family is more intentional about having a family safety plan. They talk with their children about what to do if they're lost, who they can trust for help, and the importance of having emergency information available when it's needed. Their experience is also a reminder of something bigger: Preparedness isn't about living in fear. It's about making sure the people we love have another layer of protection when life doesn't go according to plan. That's why we're sharing the Carter family's story for this week's EmpowerBands Family Spotlight. Every family has people worth protecting. Protect What Matters Most.
